El Paso County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 71-year-old woman Friday after she reportedly pulled a gun on a peace officer questioning her about dozens of dogs running loose on her property.

Sheriff’s deputies went to the home of Norma Scott, 22692 Scott Road, after receiving a complaint that dogs were running amok on the property. One dog had severe injuries and had been taken to a dog rescue for help, and later died, the sheriff’s office said.

When a deputy arrived at Scott’s home, he told her he wanted to check on the condition of her animals. She let him in, but then pulled a rifle on the officer and threatened to shoot him if he removed any of her animals, officials said.

The deputy fled the house. While waiting for police back up, the deputy watched two other women try to put animals into a truck. The women drove away in the truck, but it was later stopped by authorities and the women were cited for obstructing a peace officer.

Police charged Scott with first degree assault on a peace officer. She has posted $25,000 bond at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

The Humane Society took in “numerous” dogs from the property that were in “less than adequate condition,” El Paso County officials said.
