WASHINGTON — U.S. law enforcement authorities have told a Senate panel they believe as many as three dozen Americans who converted to Islam in prison have traveled to Yemen, possibly to train with al-Qaeda.
According to a report written by Sen. John Kerry’s staff on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the group has expanded its recruitment efforts to attract “non- traditional followers and adapted its operations.” The report declares that “despite setbacks, al-Qaeda is not on the run.” The report is to be released today.
