OMAHA, Neb.—The city of Omaha is working out a deal to gain the rights to use the name Rosenblatt Stadium.

The Omaha Royals baseball club is preparing to move to a new Sarpy County stadium once Rosenblatt is shuttered. But the club holds the trademark to the Rosenblatt name.

City Attorney Paul Kratz said the city is finalizing a deal with the Royals that would allow the city to collect a fee on anything sold with the stadium’s name or image on it.

The city wants a similar deal with the NCAA and the College World Series, which is set to move from Rosenblatt to a downtown stadium in 2011.

But CWS President Jack Diesing objects.

He argues that the city can’t claim exclusive rights to the name when the rights were abandoned long ago.
