DENVER—A federal immigration agent fired after turning over information from a restricted database that was used in an attack ad during the 2006 governor’s race is fighting to get his job back.
An administrative law judge from Washington, D.C., is holding a two-day hearing in Denver in the case of Cory Voorhis. The former Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was acquitted of charges that he illegally got information from a restricted criminal database that ended up in a political ad criticizing Gov. Bill Ritter. ICE fired Voorhis despite the acquittal.
Voorhis’ criminal defense argued that Stephanie Villafuerte, a campaign staffer who later became Ritter’s deputy chief of staff, accessed the same database but wasn’t prosecuted.
