A member of the Denver Police Department, who police say requested a welfare check on a co-worker, is under investigation for false reporting in what looks to be a practical joke.
According to Sgt. Doreen Jokerst of the Parker Police Department, police there received a call Wednesday requesting they make a welfare check.
The caller said a co-worker had not shown up for work for three days and wanted Parker officers to check on him.
“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the reporting party was playing a practical joke on his co-worker,” Jokerst said.
Jokerst said Parker police are investigating charges of false reporting.
She said Parker police have conferred with the Arapahoe County district attorney’s office, and “charges are pending.”
Byron Jones, an Arapahoe County chief deputy district attorney, said the DA’s office is not participating in the investigation with Parker police nor conducting an independent inquiry.
Jokerst said because the investigation is ongoing, she could not provide any more details.
Sonny Jackson, spokesman for the Denver Police Department, referred all questions to Parker police.
