DENVER—Fewer Coloradans are driving new cars these days. A Colorado auto group reports that new-car registrations dropped 28 percent last year—the largest decline in a decade.
Fifteen car dealerships in Colorado closed last year. But car dealers say the drop is not just because of the poor economy. Car dealers tell The Denver Post that vehicle life spans have grown because of higher-quality cars.
The trend of longer-lasting cars goes back several years. The sales trends released this month by the Colorado Automotive Dealers Association showed a 50 percent decline in new-vehicle registrations in Colorado and metro Denver between 2000 and 2009.
