A 30-year-old Greeley man was sentenced today to 18 years in prison after pleading to guilty to repeatedly stabbing a man during a fight outside a bowling alley last year.

Joel Alaniz’ victim, 28-year-old Daniel Ingle of Greeley, survived eight stab wounds, including three to the chest, in the fight outside Classic Lanes in Greeley on May 2, Weld County prosecutors said.

Alaniz was charged with first-degree assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon.

Alaniz will receive credit for 277 days he has servedin the Weld County Jail since his arrest. He was held on $760,000 bond.

Public records show he has a long history of arrests in Colorado dating back to 1997, including assault, burglary, drunken driving, traffic and weapons charges. There was an arrest warrant for Alaniz at the time of the bowling alley assault, jail records indicated.

He served 248 days in jail after pleading guilty to menacing. The charge was reduced from assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury in a 2000 incident in Greeley. Court records indicate he was on probation for other offenses at the time of his arrest.
