SAN FRANCISCO — The components that make up Apple’s iPad media tablet cost between $219 and $335, depending on the model, according to research firm iSuppli, which leaves room for Apple to lower the gadget’s price if it wants.
The firm conducted its analysis without the benefit of actually having an iPad, which goes on sale sometime in March or April. The findings, nonetheless, provide more basis for speculation about price cuts. There are six models of iPads that range in price from $499 to $829. ISuppli found that the mid-range iPads, which start at $729, are the most profitable.
“From a straight math standpoint, there’s definitely headroom there for a price cut,” iSuppli analyst Francis Sideco said. Dow Jones Newswires
