Recently named Colorado State’s recruiting coordinator, Marc Lubick is leaving the college ranks for an NFL job with many longtime friends on the Houston Texans staff.

“I hate to leave Fort Collins and CSU but it’s a situation I could not turn down,” Lubick said Thursday. He will be an offensive assistant in the NFL, helping with receivers. He had been coaching tight ends and fullbacks at CSU.

The son of former Rams coach Sonny Lubick, Marc was retained from his father’s staff by current coach Steve Fairchild.

Marc Lubick was named recruiting coordinator in January and last week, on signing day, talked about recruiting plans. The newest member of the Texans said he was contacted by Houston offensive line coach and former CSU offensive coordinator John Benton shortly before signing day and interviewed this week.

Houston has become Broncos/CSU Southwest, starting with coach Gary Kubiak. The former Broncos offensive coordinator hired Benton and ex-Broncos assistant Rick Dennison, a CSU alum. Four former CSU players — tight end Joel Dreessen, wide receiver David Anderson, defensive end Jesse Nading and offensive guard Mike Brisiel — were on the Texans’ roster at the end of the season.

Kubiak’s ties to CSU extend through his oldest son Klint, a former starting safety, and middle son, Klay, who is a reserve quarterback.

Fairchild, who left CSU early in 2001 for an NFL offer, said in a release: “This is a good move for Marc. The NFL coaching experience was extremely positive in my career, and I’m certain it will be for Marc as well.”

There is no immediate word on a replacement.

Lubick’s excitement over the career move was tempered by the loss of his grandmother, Fran Lubick, who died Wednesday at age 93.
