A Colorado State Fair administrator has been fired and is currently the target of a criminal probe for unspecified allegations, authorities say.
Janelle Gonzales, the former director of administrative service, was fired Feb. 4 following a two week leave of absence, said Chris Wiseman, the fair’s general manager.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation, along with Pueblo District Attorney’s Office will conduct a criminal investigation, Wiseman said today.
Gonzales oversaw the fair’s accounting department, and negotiated with promoters, Wiseman said.
“She worked with people who wanted to rent various buildings during the fair,” he said.
He said he could not comment on the specific allegations because the action is still considered a personnel matter and Gonzales has the right to appeal.
Gonzales, who has worked for the fair for seven years, was placed on administrative leave on Jan. 14, Wiseman said.
Gonzales previously worked on the staff of former Gov. Roy Romer and U.S. Sen. Mark Udall, when Udall was a congressman, he said.
