The two snowmobilers missing since Sunday were located Monday morning after nearly a dozen rescue crews set out to find them in an area north of Silt and Rifle in Garfield County.

Efforts to rescue the snowmobilers started Sunday night and continued early Monday morning after someone reported them missing. A spokesperson for the Garfield County Sheriff’s office says roughly eight search and rescue teams were sent to the area. Additionally, crews from Rio Blanco County offered assistance in the search.

Officials have not released the identities of the snowmobilers who were found mid-morning Monday. It is also unclear how long they were out in the elements before being found.

Snow in the area has been falling for several days, creating a potential for avalanche danger. It was not known if that played a role in the snowmobilers’ situation.
