Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will meet this morning with legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
“I have always looked up to and admired Coach Wooden,” Tulowitzki said Thursday.
Tulowitzki, a star high school basketball player, wrote Wooden a letter this winter, telling him how much he respected the coach. The 99-year-old’s response caught Tulowitzki off guard.
“He invited me to have breakfast with him,” said Tulowitzki, who will arrive at Rockies’ camp Monday.
Wooden is known as much for his philosophy of life as his 10 NCAA championships in 12 years. He authored the “Pyramid of Success,” which emphasizes strong core values, including faith, patience and honesty.
