Light snow is expected to develop along the Front Range this afternoon west of Interstate 25 and more snow is on the way for the weekend.
Before the current system has a chance to clear out another round of snow is on its heels, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow is expected to become widespread in the mountains tonight with new accumulations of up to 4 inches, the weather service said.
Light snow is expected to fall east of I-25 this evening and it should pickup on the plains sometime after midnight, the weather service reports.
Weekend snow amounts could reach 14 inches in the mountains and northern foothills, with up to 8 inches in the Fort Collins and Loveland areas, and up to 5 inches for Boulder and Denver.
Snow could linger into Sunday and Monday, but a clearing trend is forecast beginning Tuesday.
In Denver today mostly cloudy skies will bring a slight – 10 percent – chance of snow and the high temperature will barely climb above the freezing mark to 34 degrees, the weather service said.
The chance for snow in the city will increase tonight after 11 p.m. and the overnight low will drop to about 20 degrees. Snow overnight in Denver, if any, should be less than an inch.
On Saturday snow is likely in Denver after 11 a.m. and the high temperature should top out at about 31 degrees, the weather service reports. The chance of snow in Denver Saturday is 70 percent and up to 2 inches is expected.
Snow in Denver should continue through Saturday night and the chance for snow Sunday is 40 percent. Skies should be mostly cloudy and the high on Sunday should be a cold 29 degrees.
