A serious head-on collision on Highway 93 between Golden and Boulder shut down the highway for about 90 minutes this morning from Highway 72 to Highway 128, according to Trooper Ryan Sullivan of the Colorado State Patrol.

According to Jacki Kelley, spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, authorities had to extricate two victims from one of the cars.

Sullivan said one of the occupants was taken to a hospital.

The accident was reported at 8:30 a.m., said Sullivan. The highway was re-opened about 10 a.m.

Conditions of highways in the vicinity of the collision were icy and snowpacked.
