Northern Colorado basketball player Chris Kaba has been named the Big Sky Conference men’s player of the week.
Kaba started in place of injured Devon Beitzel last week and averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in wins against Eastern Washington and Portland State. It is the first time Kaba has been named player of the week.
Cowboys set public workout session.
The University of Wyoming football program will hold the first Cowboy Combine on Friday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Indoor Practice Facility on the Laramie campus. It is open to the public.
Every Friday during the Cowboys’ winter conditioning program, the players are tested in the same types of drills utilized in the NFL scouting combine held before the April 22-24 draft.
Fans can watch the Cowboys be tested in five areas Friday: the vertical jump, standing long jump, three-cone test, 20-yard shuttle and 40-yard dash.
Mines player earns RMAC honors.
Colorado Mines’ Drew Hoffman was named the men’s basketball player of the week for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s East Division.
Hoffman averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game as the Orediggers went 2-0 last week.
DeAndre Lansdowne of Fort Lewis was named player of the week for the West Division after he scored 27 points in Friday’s win over Western State and 23 points in Saturday’s win over Mesa State.
• Brecca Gaffney of Colorado Mines was named the female player of the week for the East Division for the second time this season. Gaffney posted back-to-back double-doubles in the Orediggers’ victories over Colorado Christian and CU-Colorado Springs.
Fort Lewis’ Allison Rosel was selected player of the week for the West Division. Rosel averaged 18 points and seven rebounds in home victories over Western State and Mesa State.
