WASHINGTON — The House on Tuesday approved “Billy’s Law,” a bill designed to aid families searching for missing adults.
While the online National Missing and Unidentified Persons System contains information on 2,856 missing and 6,241 unidentified persons for public use, it does not include thousands of records on an FBI database. Also, authorities are required to report missing persons under age 21 but not missing adults.
The legislation would require the FBI to share information, excluding sensitive and confidential data, with the public database. It also would authorize funds to encourage officials to enter information on missing persons and unidentified remains into the databases.
