DENVER—Colorado lawmakers have put plans for a memorial to the war on terror on hold following a dispute over how to memorialize the Iraq war.
House Majority Leader Paul Weissmann, D-Louisville, says the law creating a memorial committee specifically called for a memorial to the war on terror.
He said now that President Barack Obama has repudiated the Iraq war, lawmakers need time to figure out what that means for the memorial and it may require new legislation.
State Sen. Mike Kopp, R-Littleton, says the project should not be derailed by politics. He says the memorial was intended to be dedicated to fallen heroes, not specific wars, and it should go forward.
