A man suspected of stealing a vehicle crashed it outside a middle school Friday morning and was injured.

The crash happened after 6:30 a.m. in front of Rocky Heights Middle School, 11033 Monarch Blvd., according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The auto-theft suspect, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with “serious injuries,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle outside the school. A woman driving that vehicle received “minor injuries,” and a boy in the car was not hurt.

The vehicle theft was reported about 6:30 a.m. from the driveway of a Highlands Ranch home, where the vehicle was left running unattended.

Deputies spotted the vehicle near University Boulevard and Highlands Ranch Parkway but ended their pursuit because of slick roads and heavy traffic.

Moments later, the Sheriff’s Office received a call about the accident at the school.
