Three Littleton school facilities were locked down for just over an hour this morning.

Diane Leiker, spokeswoman for Littleton Public Schools, said that the schools were locked down about 7:30 a.m. with the lockdown ending about 8:45 a.m.

Leiker said Littleton police did not say why the lockdown was necessary except that there was “police activity in the area” of the facilities.

Sgt. Kim Steen of the Littleton Police Department said officers were investigating a “family situation” in the area of the schools and the schools, believing there might be some safety issues, decided to lock down their facilities.

Steen said that subsequently it was determined that there were no safety issues and the lockdown was lifted. Steen did not have details on the incident involving the family.

Euclid Middle School, 777 W. Euclid Ave.; Options High School, 6558 S. Acoma St. and the Whitman facility, which is used for meetings at 6557 S. Acoma St., were all locked down.

Leiker said many students were already in the middle and high school when the lockdown was initiated, although some school buses were diverted to Heritage High School.
