Work was completed this week on Denver International Airport’s second solar energy project.
A 1.6-megawatt facility was constructed on nine acres north of the airfield, where it powers the airport’s fuel-storage and distribution facility.
The $7 million project will allow the airport to buy electricity for about 90 percent of the rate charged by its commercial supplier, Xcel Energy.
Companies involved in the project are Oak Leaf Energy Partners of Denver, Intermountain Electric of Aurora and MP2 Capital of San Francisco.
A 2-megawatt solar system is located near the terminal.
