LAS VEGAS — Colorado State’s women fell silent in the final 6:41, allowing New Mexico to extend a two-point lead to a convincing 67-54 win in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament.
The Rams finished the year 13-17, the most wins for the program since going 15-13 in 2005.
Chantilla van Grinsven led CSU with 16 points. New Mexico (18-11) had too much fire power with 38 points combined from Amy Beggin and Sara Halasz.
CSU trailed by three with 1:52 to go in the first half but offensive woes started when Lobos 6-feet-6 Estonian import Valerie Kast blocked three shots before halftime.
New Mexico will play Utah, a 63-40 winner over Air Force.
