A 63-year-old woman was killed this morning at East 40th Avenue and Airport Boulevard when her car was T-boned by an black Nissan SUV, according to Aurora police.
Sgt. Chris Carleton, spokesman for the Aurora Police Department, said in a release the accident occurred about 9:33 a.m.
Police and fire units from both Aurora and Denver found the two vehicles in the middle of the intersection. He said the driver of the tan 2000 4-door Buick, the 63-year-old woman, was taken to the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, where she died of her injuries.
The 28-year-old man driving the Nissan was uninjured. Carleton described the driver of the Nissan as cooperative.
Carleton said an investigation revealed the Buick was northbound on Airport Boulevard, which is just east of Pena Boulevard, and was struck by the Nissan, which was westbound on 40th Avenue.
Carleton said that at this time it appears the Nissan failed to stop for a red light and struck the Buick in the intersection.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, said Carleton.
He said the investigation is on-going.
Names of the drivers have not been released.
