A home in Greeley was gutted by fire Wednesday and the blaze was so intense that it melted siding on a neighboring home.

The fire started at about 2 p.m. at 2280 1st Ave., the Woodland East Mobile Home Park, according to a media release from Greeley’s Union Colony Fire Rescue Authority.

When firefighters arrived, the fire was so intense they couldn’t enter the home, the fire department said.

The fire was contained to the single home and an adjoining shed.

The homeowner was not injured but his pet dog, a Chihuahua, likely died in the fire.

The dog is missing and its body has not yet been recovered, said Division Chief Dale Lyman, a fire department spokesman.

The home, however, was a total loss estimated at about $60,000, according to the release.

The neighboring home and a vehicle nearby suffered about $10,000 in damage, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
