LINCOLN, Neb.—Kyle Schlake scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Freeman to a 52-38 victory over Overton in the Class D1 final at the boys state tournament Saturday.
Jordan Pella added 13 points for the Falcons (26-2), who were state runners-up a year ago.
Jacob Olmstead scored 17 points and Jared Shafer had eight points and 11 rebounds for Overton (21-4), which was in the state final for the first time since 1970.
Pella, who had a total of nine points in the first two games at state, did most of his damage during the stretch in the second quarter when Freeman took the lead for good. He scored nine points during the 12-0 spurt, hitting a couple layups and a 3-pointer.
Overton closed within 28-24 in the third quarter but could get no closer as Freeman broke things open with a 12-2 run.
Schlake finished the tournament with 46 points in three games.
