BOULDER — On a night where last season’s champions were back for more in both 4A and 5A, Sierra finished its repeat quest with a 61-56 overtime win over Pueblo East on Saturday at the Coors Events Center.

It wasn’t easy.

Pueblo East overcame a slow start to make it a fourth quarter contest, and when Jordan Gregory hit a floating bank shot with 8.7 seconds left, the game was tied at 48. Kamryn Williams rimmed out a baseline jumper that would have won the game in regulation.

But in overtime the Stallions made more plays when it counted to win its second consecutive state title. The Stallions were led by Jahmall Fountain’s 20 points. He scored eight of Sierra’s 13 points in the extra frame.

The Stallions blew a 16-point lead in the second quarter as Pueblo East gradually found its footing.

An ever-changing Pueblo East defense caused turnovers and miscues in the second and third quarters as the Eagles reeled Sierra in. A 15-4 first quarter Sierra lead became a 28-21 halftime lead, which turned over to a 39-37 Pueblo East advantage after the third.

The fourth was a contest of who wanted it more, and that ended in a dead heat. Overtime, however, and another title, belonged to the Stallions.
