REYKJAVIK, Iceland — Iceland’s civil protection agency says a volcano has erupted in southern Iceland in the Eyjafjallajokull glacier.
The volcano is covered by an ice cap. Authorities have evacuated hundreds of people in the area 100 miles southeast of the capital, Reykjavik, for fear of flooding as the glacier melts.
The last time the volcano erupted was in the 1820s.
