Littleton Symphony Orchestra officials who discovered that about $30,000 was missing from the nonprofit group’s bank account are working to get the money returned.
Orchestra president Al MacDonald said he is confident the money will be returned soon.
“We are aware funds are missing. Our main concern is to get that back,” MacDonald said Saturday when first contacted by The Denver Post. “It’s significant.”
He asked for more time to investigate and said Sunday that there could be a resolution today but that he was “not at liberty” to elaborate on whether police were involved.
“I’m essentially waiting for more information,” he said Sunday afternoon. “But I’m confident we’ll have this resolved by tomorrow.”
MacDonald declined to say who he thought took the money but said, “We do know who is responsible.”
Orchestra treasurer Cliff Brown, who plays trumpet in the orchestra, declined to comment about the missing funds.
“I don’t think that’s something I’m in a position to talk about,” he said.
The orchestra performs about six shows a year, said former president Richard Spritz.
The funds went missing as the orchestra prepares for a performance Friday at the Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 S. Datura St., in which the orchestra will perform works by American composers, including “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin.
