Among the spices brewers will bring into the mix occasionally is ginger root, and Greeley microbrewer Crabtree gives it another twist by adding northern Colorado wildflower honey. The result is a cloudy blond ale with a nice off-white head that opens up with scents of malt, bread and ginger. This is a sweet beer with little hop balance, the ginger and honey adding to the malt for a pleasant crispness. Ginger Bee also has a medicinal quality: Ginger root settles an upset stomach, and this ale is an excellent anodyne for anyone who might have overimbibed the night before. Its sweetness makes it go down easy in the morning (or early afternoon, as the case may be), and the alcohol by volume of 6.47 percent will likewise ease any jangly nerves or recalcitrant head.
