Denver’s Matthew Morris got clipped on the “Shear Genius” finale Wednesday night, coming in third in the popular hairstyling competition’s third season on Bravo TV.
Brig Van Osten took home the honors and the prize of $100,000. She blows it wild and dry at Play Hair Salon in Simi Valley, Calif.
Morris was one of a dozen contestants who cut, colored and curled hair during 10 episodes, winning numerous challenges along the way in the competition sponsored by Nexxus Salon Hair Care.
Before the results of “Shear Genius” were broadcast Wednesday night, Morris said: “It was amazing. The competition itself was easy, but keeping the result a secret drove me insane.”
What kept him in the show so long? “I never panic,” he said. “I never second-guess myself. And I am able to work quickly.”
And what does he charge for a haircut now that he’s shearly famous? “It depends on how long you’ve been seeing me,” he said. “It starts at $50 — but it’s $150 if you’re new.”
Judges included some of the industry’s top talents, including Kevin Mancuso, Ken Paves and Linda Wells, editor of Allure magazine.
Morris opened his eponymous salon at 277 Broadway four years ago and is a well-known character in Denver’s young social scene. Earlier in the program’s season, Morris won three short challenges and three elimination challenges — a record for the show.
