PHOENIX—Phoenix police arrested a man accused of trying to defraud an elderly Colorado woman.
Forty-four-year-old Sullivan Kizzee was booked on charges of forgery and fraudulent schemes.
Detectives said an 86-year-old Pueblo, Colo., woman received a phone call April 1 from a man identifying himself as a Chase Bank employee. The caller said the bank had a 9/11 memorial fund and was distributing money to citizens.
The caller told the victim to withdraw $8,000 from her bank and send the cash by courier to an address in Phoenix and the bank then would make an $800,000 deposit into her account.
The victim withdrew the funds and prepared to send the money to Phoenix. The victim told her daughter and she notified police.
An officer posing as a delivery agent arrested Kizzee after he signed for a fake package.
