GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—An Orchard Mesa man faces several counts of sexual assault on a child by force after a boy in foster care told police he had been assaulted “for as long as I can remember.”
Grand Junction police arrested 58-year-old Stanley Dee Smith this week. He was ordered held Wednesday on $300,000 bail. An arrest affidavit alleges the assaults began when the boy was 6 years old and ended in October 2006, when the boy was removed from Smith’s home. The boy, now 11, recently told his foster family about the alleged assaults.
Police say a doctor found injuries consistent with the boy’s story.
Police say Smith voluntarily submitted to a computer voice-stress test in January and a detective believed Smith was telling the truth when he denied the allegations.
