In a remarkable display of courage, Taylor McGregor played for the Golden High School girls’ soccer team Wednesday, a day after her widely beloved father, Colorado Rockies president Keli McGregor, died unexpectedly.
Not only did Taylor play, she scored the first goal in Golden’s 5-0 win against Conifer. After scoring the goal, several witnesses said they heard Taylor say: “That was for you, dad.”
“It’s fair to say at that point there weren’t too many dry eyes,” said Golden athletic director Steve Anderson. “It was an emotional moment. The entire game was an emotional moment.”
Just as the Rockies decided to play Tuesday night against the Washington Nationals because they felt that would have been McGregor’s wish, Anderson said Golden’s soccer team and Taylor played Wednesday because it would have been her father’s desire.
Attending the soccer game was Brian McGregor, Keli’s father, who was a 30-year football coach at Arvada West.
