BOULDER, Colo.—A 27-year-old woman who says she didn’t mean to kill her husband has been sentenced to seven years of probation.
Traci Housman was sentenced Friday for stabbing her husband, John, during an argument at home Aug. 2. She pleaded guilty in February to criminally negligently homicide, a charge that carries up to three years in prison.
Housman told police that she used the kitchen knife to protect herself. Police say she administered CPR to him and called 911.
Boulder County District Judge Maria Berkenkotter says probation and community service are an appropriate sentence because no one believes Housman meant to kill her husband.
Housman’s 90-day sentence in the county jail’s work-release program will be suspended when she finds permanent employment.
