Fire crews responded to a manhole near the Colorado Governor’s Mansion on Monday after a man reportedly fell in and could not get back out.
The Denver Fire Department responded to the scene at West 8th Avenue and Logan Street around 11 a.m.
According to Denver Fire, a Fiber Net subcontractor for Qwest was doing maintenance work on fiber cables when he fell off a ladder about 12 feet into the manhole.
Firefighters set up a tripod and rescuers who specialize in confined-space rescues were able to retrieve the man within about 14 minutes.
Authorities say the man was taken to a local hospital. His condition and identity were not immediately known.
Crews shut down Logan and West 8th Avenue during the rescue.
