Police on the Auraria Campus near downtown Denver are looking for someone who discharged a hand gun in a woman’s bathroom stall.

The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. and no one was hit by the single shot, said Blaine Nickeson, an Auraria spokesman.

“We believe a handgun was accidently discharged in a bathroom stall,” Nickeson said. “Whoever the person was, fled the scene.”

The gun was fired about four inches above the floor and the bullet lodged into drywall, according to a campus bulletin.

Police are also trying to contact a possible witness. The witness is described as a white woman between the ages of 18 and 21. She is about five-feet five-inches tall with blonde hair and a pony tail. The witness was wearing a blue plaid shirt at the time of the incident.

Concealed weapons can be carried in Denver, but only if the holder has a permit. The campus, however, bans weapons.

Auraria is home to Denver Community College, Metropolitan State College of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Auraria Police at 303 556-5000.
