A 22-year-old man has been found guilty of murder in the shooting death of a 23-year-old victim.
Corey Ray Albat was found guilty of murder in the first degree for the death of Kyle Lathrop, according to a media release from the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.
On May 9, 2009, Lathrop and a friend drove from Lakewood to meet with Albat and the pair got into and argument, the DA’s office said.
Lathrop and his friend left, but were called back by Albat a short time later, prosecutors said.
At the second meeting, in the 500 block of Geneva Street, Albat pulled a gun and shot Lathrop 3 times, according to the DA’s office. Lathrop drove about half a block before losing consciousness. He was taken by paramedics to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.
Albat was arrested later that day on a Greyhound bus in Kansas, the DA’s office said, and extradited to Colorado.
An Arapahoe County Jury found Albat guilty this week after a six-day trial. The jury returned the verdict after about 12 hours of deliberation.
Albat is scheduled to be sentenced on June 25, 2010.
