A 16-year-old boy is accused of carrying marijuana and a hacksaw after causing a lockdown at three Colorado Springs schools this morning.
The teen, who was not named because of his age, is not a student at either James Madison Charter Academy or Mesa Ridge High School. Webster Elementary School also was on lockdown during the incident that began at about 8:45 a.m. today.
The boy was seen near Mesa Ridge High with what was first reported to be a gun.
When an El Paso County sheriff’s deputy approached him, he ran but was eventually caught by other deputies. He is accused of discarding a hacksaw during the chase, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement this afternoon.
The teen was charged with criminal trespassing, interference at an educational institution, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempted theft.
He was issued a summons and released to his parents, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
