A man and woman are using two children, a young boy and young girl, as decoys to set up thefts at day spas and salons in the metro area, Denver police said today.
The thefts have taken place at several businesses in Denver, Lakewood and Broomfield, according to a Denver Police Department media release.
Denver police said pair take either the boy, about age 6, or the girl, about 4 years old, into spas and salons and ask if the child can use a restroom. While the child is in the restroom they pilfer break rooms, offices and private areas for things to steal. Police believe the thieves have hit at least eight businesses in the Denver area.
One thief is described as a Latino man in his early 20s, about 6-feet tall and 175 pounds. He has short, dark brown hair. The woman is said to be Latino, medium height about 200 pounds with thick eyebrows drawn with eyeliner. Her hair is sometimes dyed red or blonde, and she is thought to be in her 30s, police said.
They travel in a light blue, compact 4-door sedan, possibly a Honda.
Anyone with information on the thefts or on possible suspects is asked to call their local police department. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 720 913-STOP (7867). Information leading to an arrest or conviction can receive a reward of up to $2,000.
