DENVER—A man accused of swindling nearly $777,000 from the widow of a Denver police officer has been arrested in Texas.
The Denver district attorney’s office said Thursday 43-year-old Xavier Joseph Duran is being held in Addison, Texas, on an indictment accusing him of securities fraud, theft and violating Colorado’s organized crime act.
He’s awaiting extradition proceedings. It’s not clear if has a lawyer.
Denver DA spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough (KIM’-bro) says prosecutors believe Duran lives in Pueblo and that his family may have property in Texas.
The indictment claims Duran stole a total of more than $1 million.
Kimbrough says one of the alleged victims is the widow of Officer Donnie Young, who was killed in the line of duty in 2005.
