A former University of Colorado football player, who is now an assistant football coach at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, was arrested in Boulder earlier this week after police said he stole a gun and wallet from a bouncer at a downtown strip club.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said a bouncer at the Nitro Club on the Pearl Street Mall threw Tyler Gregorak, 31, out of the club last weekend after determining that the UNLV linebacker coach and recruiting coordinator had had too much to drink.

Gregorak then entered the bouncer’s car, which was parked nearby on Broadway, and took the man’s wallet and a handgun, Huntley said.

On Saturday, police said the bouncer was awoken at his home by “persistent knocking” and opened the door to see Gregorak standing there, whom he recognized from the previous night.

“He said (Gregorak) was apologizing and told him he wanted to give him his stuff back,” Huntley said.

She said the bouncer managed to write down the license plate from Gregorak’s rental car and police were able to trace the car to Gregorak.

Gregorak, who played linebacker for the Buffs in the late 1990s, turned himself into Boulder police on Tuesday and was booked. He is free on a $2,500 bond.

He faces charges of first-degree trespassing and prohibited weapons possession. Prosecutors will file formal charges against Gregorak on Thursday.
