COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A judge has ordered anti-tax advocate Douglas Bruce to appear for a deposition about who financed a petition drive to get three statewide measures on the November ballot.

Denver District Court Judge Brian Whitney issued the order Monday at the request of the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office.

Petition circulators collected thousands of signatures to get Amendment 60, Amendment 61 and Proposition 101 on the ballot. The proposals would limit the ability of local and state governments to borrow and spend money. Opponents say that would cripple state and local governments.

According to Secretary of State’s Office records, eight professional signature collectors lived in an apartment house that Bruce owns.
