Getting your player ready...

With Mother Nature conspiring to provide very un-spring-like conditions, backup plans are in place if poor weather wrecks havoc with the 4A and 5A state tennis tournaments.

The 5A tournament, held at the Gates Tennis Center in Cherry Creek, will move some of its matches to Denver City Park if the weather causes significant delays t0 this morning’s opening-round play. The final matches could be pushed until Sunday, but Colorado High School Activities Association associate director Bethany Schott indicated Sunday matches would be a last resort.

At the 4A tournament at Pueblo City Park, officials said the courts at the area high schools could be used if necessary, but conditions are not expected to be as bad in Pueblo. Neither tournament will be moved indoors, and the prevailing theme at both locations will be to wait it out.

“We told the coaches to check in at 9 a.m. as usual, and we will alter the schedule if we need to from there,” Schott said. “The call will be made at that point.”
