Hares in the House weren’t pleased with the Senate turtles on Wednesday afternoon.

With one bill waiting for a conference committee, the Senate had yet to appoint a conference committee and House leadership was none too happy.

The Senate had taken up a series of lengthy goodbyes to departing members, and its lack of action on the last bill meant 65 House legislators had to stick around until the measure was passed or killed.

With little left to do but wait, the House chamber quickly descended into festive chaos with music by Queen, an impromptu dance party in the well and dueling remote-control helicopters.

A frustrated House Majority Leader Paul Weissmann, D-Louisville, pointed out that the Senate started its day late at 10:30 a.m., began its series of adieu’s and then broke for lunch before addressing legislation.

“We could have been done by noon,” he said.
