An installer was killed Thursday morning when a 1.5-ton steel safe slipped and crushed him at the Chase Bank branch in Ken Caryl.
The man was pinned against a door, which trapped a co-worker in the room with him, said Jacki Kelley, a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, which is conducting a standard death investigation. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also is investigating.
“It appears to be a really unfortunate, tragic accident,” she said.
West Metro Fire crews cut through a wall to reach the man and the uninjured co-worker in the room.
The installer’s name and the name of the company were not released pending notification of next of kin.
“It’s a real small company,” Kelley explained.
