Circle June 12 as a day to enjoy fishing in South Park and remember former Denver Post outdoors writer Charlie Meyers.

The dedication ceremony for the “Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area” is set for that morning at the South Platte River between Spinney Mountain and Elevenmile reservoirs. That area is known as the “Dream Stream” and was a favorite fishing spot for Meyers, who died in January after a two-year battle with lung cancer.

The longtime outdoors writer for The Post will also be remembered that night at a charity event. “Fish On! An Evening of Storytelling” will be held to honor his legacy. Tickets are limited and must be bought in advance; they are $100 with all proceeds going to the “Trout in the Classroom” program sponsored by Trout Unlimited and the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

The dedication ceremony at 10:30 a.m. is open to the public, and the dinner-charity event is 5 p.m. at the American Safari Ranch in Fairplay. During the day, the town of Fairplay is hosting the “Hooked on Fairplay” fishing festival.
