DENVER—The sandwich chain Quiznos says it plans to develop up to 600 new stores nationwide by the end of the year.

The Denver-based company says that could create about 7,500 jobs.

It already has about 4,000 restaurants.

Quiznos said Tuesday that the new stores would include company-owned branches and Quiznos-funded joint venture ownerships with qualified entrepreneurs. The company has traditionally had a franchise model.

Quiznos also has been tweaking its menu, wooing budget-conscious customers, increasing green packaging and renovating existing stores.
