GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—A $2.18 million project to repair damage from a rock slide in Glenwood Canyon in March is complete, 12 days early.
The Colorado Department of Transportation had given a contractor until May 31 to complete repairs and add 14,000 square feet of wire mesh along the canyon wall to keep smaller rocks from falling, but the project was deemed complete Wednesday.
Longmont-based contractor Flatiron Construction Corp. earns a $31,000 bonus for finishing early.
The rock slide closed a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 70 for about three days after 20 boulders punched holes in an elevated section of the highway. No one was hurt.
Work included bridge, guardrail and lighting repairs.
