Jennessa Tesone’s two-run, walkoff home run gave the Metro State softball team a 2-1 victory Friday over Wayne (Neb.) State as the Roadrunners continued their roll through the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Metro State (50-4), ranked No. 4 nationally, took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three super regional series at Auraria Field. Wayne State (43-13) will get another chance today at noon in Game 2, but must win twice to knock out unbeaten Metro State.

The winner of the series advances to the Division II College World Series.

The Roadrunners’ Christie Robinson (27-2) allowed seven hits through seven innings, but gave up just one run, in the sixth inning.

With Metro State trailing by a run, Tara Mickelson walked on 10 pitches to open the bottom of the seventh. Tesone followed on a 2-2 count with a homer well over the center-field fence.
