Brad Eldred became the first Sky Sox player in almost six years to hit three home runs in one game, but Colorado Springs fell to the host Iowa Cubs 11-7 on Sunday in a Pacific Coast League game.
Eldred had five RBIs in the loss and has six homers and 16 RBIs in his last eight games. His first three-homer game gave him 183 home runs during a 10-year minor-league career.
He is the seventh Sky Sox player to go deep three times in a game, and the first since Jorge Piedra hit three on July 1, 2004, at Albuquerque.
Sky Sox starter Josh Muecke (0-3) took the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings as Colorado Springs was swept in the four-game series against the Cubs.
It was the 10th time this season and fifth time in the last eight games that the Sky Sox have allowed double-digit runs. Their 5.59 team ERA ranks 15th in the 16-team PCL.
