John Fogerty’s “Centerfield” has logged more time in baseball stadiums than most Hall of Famers. Now, the classic song is about to get its due in Cooperstown. The Baseball Hall of Fame said “Centerfield” will be honored along with Andre Dawson, Whitey Herzog and Doug Harvey at the induction ceremony July 25, the first time a musician or a song has been celebrated as a part of the festivities. “It was clear to me that songs about sports and rock ‘n’ roll really do not coexist very well,” Fogerty said. “But I did it anyway. I just thought, you know, I’m going to risk being lame.” The Associated Press; Getty Images file photo
